December Goodness
A mix in two parts reflecting what I acquired in the last month of the year, mostly funny house things and euro-disco stuff. The first mix is probably the best I’ve done so far in terms of flow between tracks (this was an accident). The second is a bit more shoehorned together and includes a surprise appearance by Altered Images (this was an accident).
Hard Disk Brain Dump
Here are three mixes from the selection of songs in my regular George and Dragon virtual bag. They are grouped by speed rather than genre, so they don’t exactly flow at certain points. There is lots of stuff you will probably know mixed in with my usual disco-y favorites.
Slowest runs the gamut of love from the sacred (You are my love) to the profane (Makin’ love keeps you fit) via lots of nice things like Dusty Springfield.
Medium has some lovely Moroder (First hand experience of second hand love), goes a bit electro and then includes both Yello and Sparks, reflecting my love of duos with synthesizers and facial hair.
Fastest starts disco and works towards a peak of the Human League’s very underrated early nought-ies comeback, winding down to possibly Abba’s weirdest lyric (banned in the USSR, for obvious reasons).

Musical Innovator
Having invented the sound the kids are calling "Big Beat" yesterday I thought today I'd create another genre which I shall name "Shoegazing". I started with some bagpipes and got a little bit drunk and wondered what they would sound like through a fuzzbox. Quite good as it happens, so I sent everything else through the same effects. The results are here.
Done another poo
Here's another tune what I made. I like most of it because there is a tension between the spooky bits and the heavy-handed breakbeats. Maybe I've invented a new genre of music which I could call "Big Beat" and get that bloke out of the Housemartins to contribute, or maybe I'm not very interesting. Gratuitous porn sample alert about 2 minutes in.

PROGKRAUT

It was Steve' birthday in November and he asked me to prepare a set of strictly Prog Rock and Kraut Rock. I didn't stick too faithfully to the brief but I've uploaded a condensed version of the first half of the night. There's a horrible glitch mid way through the Gottsching track that I can't work out how to rid myself off. I've tried for a couple of weeks to work it out but the it seems beyond my technical skills - I'll repost if I can carry out the necessary repairs. And to anyone who was there at the George & Dragon sorry for the second half of my set - Nick Drake seemed like a good idea in rehearsals.

Daddy, I did a poo
I've been circling round this whole disco re-edit thing for a long time and here is my first effort. After 32 bars of actual arrangement the rest is just mucking around. Let me know what you think of my work in progress.

6am Maternal
I know I’ve neglected the site of late, but I got distracted by actually making music (which may be posted at a later date) rather than mixing together other peoples’ stuff. Anyway here are a couple of mixes I’ve done of late.
The first, slow, I did imagining about 6am when you’re at a party in someone’s house and the sun is up, and you’re thinking about when the pubs open and still want some beat-based music but can’t be arsed to actually dance. It is a selection of the mellower end of house music.
The second came about because I work with the legend that is Lee “the Cat” Cattini and I promised to give him some random stuff off my hard drive for his mp3 player. He’s a big fan of the Smiths (I’m not) so I tried to select some stuff that I like that falls into the category of guitar-centered music with some added stuff that he really ought to have. A selection of this has ended up as a mixtape which veers all over the place.
On listening to them both, I’d actually prefer if the cat’s mixtape at 6am.
